I came across this video by Sugata Mitra, professor of Educational Technology at Newcastle University, where he explains his concept of SOLEs – Self Organised Learning Enviroments. I felt that I had to post something as this is more or less what I’ve been exploring with this blog – decentralised teaching and learning.

He focusses on children’s education but brings up some very important broad questions which I’m going to apply to the English language teaching world:

Will language schools (traditional ‘academies’) become obsolete?

Can we institutionalise more learner-centred, decentralised approaches into ELT?

If so, what would need to happen for us to institutionalise learner-centred/ decentralised teaching and learning?

I’d like to hear your opinions and comments!
